Abstract

It is difficult to plan for information services and develop library services without relying on indicators, statistics, and surveys that illustrate the reading trends of the users, as well as their characteristics, preferences, and behaviors in dealing with information. Whether these indicators are the results of the analysis of the data of the library users (circulation records, use of digital resources, analysis of the electronic log file, social network analytics... etc.), or based on general stereotypical indicators made on large groups of users, whether at the national, regional or international level. Taking into account that the extrapolation of general indicators should be done with caution according to the cultural, linguistic, spatial, and age group context of such reports, the reading habits and behaviors observed in the United States of America do not necessarily apply to users in the Arab environment or a specific Arab country.
