Knowledge Management Maturity Models and their Impact on the Success of Knowledge Management Strategy

Abstract

Nowadays, many organizations face obstacles and challenges in implementing a knowledge management strategy. Knowledge itself became a crucial factor and resource for organizations success and continuity as it is a key element in its strategy. One of the main challenges is understanding its current status and the potentiality of its progress and development. Here comes the value and importance of measuring organization knowledge maturity and available models to assess and measure knowledge management which assists in identifying and understanding the current knowledge management practices and concepts then preparing a roadmap to move the maturity level forward to accomplish and execute knowledge management strategy. The objective of this study is to explore the understanding of knowledge management maturity models and their impact on the successful implementation of knowledge management strategy. This study used the comparative approach where five maturity models were compared in terms of their scope, levels, and features. Each one of these five models was discussed separately, and the focus was on the methodology and approach of each one of them. As a result, by reading and comprehending this study we will understand and be aware of the value and importance of knowledge management maturity models and their impact and influence for a successful implementation of knowledge management strategy. The study was concluded with some recommendations about lessons learned for better implementation.
